HISTORY OF LEE COUNTY IOWA: Volume II - S. J. Clarke, Publishing Company - Chicago, Ill., 1914 - Page #254. Sylvester Hugh Satterly is a well to do farmer and stockman owning and operating two hundred acres on section #20 of Harrison Township. He is a native of this township, his brith occurring upon the homestead located a few miles south of his present farm. He is a son of Sylvester 0. & Eleanor (Norris) Satterly, who came to lee county in 1838 and took up one hundred and sixty acres of land on section 31, Harrison township, later adding forty acres. He followed the trade of wagon making until his health failed and also devoted considerable time to the operation of his farm, which was situated two miles east of Farmington.
Sylvester Hugh Satterly was reared in Harrison Township and was afforded the advantage of a good education, attending the high school in Farmington. He removed to his present location in 1871 and has resided there continuously since that date.

His farm is one of the valuable properties of the neighborhood and he has installed thereon all the usual modern improvements, thus facilitating the work of cultivating the fields. He has made agriculture a life long study and his scientific methods insure him abundant crops. His wife Louisa (Carver), was born at the old Carver home in that Harrison township, where she was reared & attended Denmark Academy in persuit of an education. She subsuquently taught school for some time in this county and was very successful in that profession. They are active members of the Presbyterian Church and the work of that organ­ization.

Sylvester married Louisa Carver, daughter of William Carver and Hannah Jane Sax, on 25 Mar 1855 in Harrison Township, Lee County, Iowa. (Louisa Carver was born on 13 Dec 1863 in Primrose, Lee County, IA, died on 13 Jan 1938 and was buried in Sharon Cemetery, Lee County IA.)
