   General Notes:

Obituary:
Thomas McConnell Kuhn, buried with impressive services here last Saturday morning, death having occurred last Wednesday at 6:00 in the home of Mrs. Margaret Crawford, was 92 years old and served in the armies of the north during the Civil War. His service record is impressive.
Mr. Kuhn was born in Eddysville, Armstrong County, in 1844, enlisted as a drummer boy and served through the whole war being wounded several times. He was wounded in the famed charge by General Pickett.(*1) He was taken prisoner there and thrown into prison for 8 months.(*2) After service which expired on July 4, 1864 he left Petersburg and returned to Pittsburgh and home. He was in the Lincoln call of 1865 and helped to raise Company D(*3) of the 104th and went back to Petersburg in charge of a squad of men. On the 7th day of August his company was discharged, the war being over, returning to his home here on the 12th day of October.
Shortly thereafter Mr Kuhn was united in marriage to Miss Mary E. McBride, who was the daughter of a soldier who had died in the war. She also lost a brother in the war. They were married in Clearfield(*4) by Rev. Fr. Doll, that place. The spring of '66 the couple moved to Forest Hill, Jefferson County, where they lived 2 years before coming to Brookville.
Mr Kuhn's grandfather on his mother's side, was Patrick Porter, who was a sailor on Admiral Perry's(*5) flagship on Lake Erie. When that ship was sunk, he swam ashore and was saved. The government granted him land in Indiana County. He was the son of John Kuhn, who was born in Centre County in 1738, and Annie (Porter) Kuhn.
Seven children, Margaret M., Wife of Wm. Crawford, this place; J. A. Kuhn, Blair, Neb.; Alice R., Wife of Parker Hayes, this place; Catherine D., Wife of J. B. White; Maude E., Wife of Murt E. Irwin; Thomas Francis, (*6) this city; Olive L., Wife of P. V. Dorle, Cleveland. There are 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
The obituary is presented as written in the Brookville , Pa. paper. The following are corrections to errors contained within the above.
(*1) Wounded July 2, 1863 in battle of the wheat-field. Probably wounded in the charge of Barksdale's Mississippi Brigade that was much more vicious but less reported than Pickett's charge of July 3rd.
(*2) War records indicate that he was held prisoner for 3 months.
(*3) Company (K). He was elected sergeant.
(*4) The marriage took place in the town of Coylesville, Butler Co., Pa at the Clearfield Church.
(*5) Perry was a Commodore, not an Admiral in the War of 1812.
(*6) I believe Thomas Francis to be Wade, married to Louise Honadle Kuhn.

Thomas married Mary E. McBride. (Mary E. McBride was born in 1846, died in 1922 and was buried in St. Mary's Cenetery, Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.)
